Relationship Issues

Relationships can be fulfilling and also overwhelming. We can feel both happiness and excitement, while also dread, fear, and loneliness. While relationships can be healing, they can also create challenges for us both emotionally and physically.

Often, we tend to repeat patterns in our relationships that reflect on areas within ourselves that need tending to. These patterns may include how we communicate with others, the ways we give and receive love, resolve conflict, express emotional vulnerability, and physical intimacy. We may or may not be aware of how these patterns may stem from early childhood relationships, which include family, peer relationships, authority figures, etc., and impact the ways we interact with and trust others.

How can therapy help me with relational issues?

Therapy can help you better understand the underlying issues in your relationships so you can relate with others how you desire.

Since I believe relationships can provide a safe space to heal these patterns, I believe it is important to utilize our therapeutic relationship in our sessions. The therapeutic relationship serves as a microcosm of real-life relationships. By observing how you and I interact through patterns of communication, emotional reactions, and defenses, I can point out parallels with your outside relationships. This reflection is a powerful tool that can lead to greater self-awareness and understanding. The relationship we develop can serve as a model for healthier interactions, helping you to learn trust and communication skills to connect with others more effectively. I will also help you challenge and explore these behaviors to modify them how you desire.

If you find yourself repeating patterns in your relationships that are not serving you, I would love to guide you through effective communication strategies that will help you rebuild trust and foster emotional intimacy with others.
